Please familiarize yourself with the following important information about University Email Address Policies & Requirements. All UW-Madison students are directed to use and configure their UW Email account for all program and University related activities, and to check this email address regularly. Email Options and UW-Madison Learning Systems
Students are expected to check their UW email address (email@example.com) regularly. Students should configure the email client to their preference to ensure all university, course, program, and system communications and notifications are received, and to setup filtering or forwarding as a strategy for managing official university email, and for notifications from the various learning systems (i.e. UW-Madison Box, Canvas, UW Google Apps, Moodle, Desire2Learn, etc.).We provide various mechanisms for communication and collaboration through UW learning systems. Before sending an individual email, consider posting a message to an appropriate discussion forum if another student may benefit from the post. Also, remember that subscribing to a discussion forum (in UW-Madison Moodle or Desire2Learn, or Canvas) enables the learning management system to send discussion forum notifications directly to the UW email address.
Filtering UW Email
Filtering email into folders or sub-folders can assist with sorting and managing messages. Search the documentation for your email client to learn how to setup email filters, rules, or smart mailboxes. For example, if subscribing to a course discussion forum, a rule can be created that will automatically place all email from that forum into a specific folder, or add a specific tag depending on your email client.
Forwarding UW Email
WiscListA student may choose to forward their UW email account to another email address, but students are responsible for all information, including attachments, sent to any other email account. Whichever email address is chosen, please understand that the UW email address (i.e., firstname.lastname@example.org) is the primary mode of contact for the graduate program and for all official University communications, and should be checked regularly. WiscList is the UW tool used to create and manage email lists. Many UW students are automatically added to several WiscLists upon course enrollment. To Manage your WiscList subscriptions, go to WiscList Admin login and click My Subscriptions on the left navbar. Click on an individual list to modify the settings or to completely unsubscribe.
