This document contains information and nomination materials for the Academic Advising Awards in the College of Letters & Science.
College of Letters & Science 2020-21 Advising Awards
Advising is critical to student success. These annual
advising awards acknowledge the importance of undergraduate and graduate
advisors; they allow the College to recognize and reward the exemplary work of
faculty and academic staff involved in providing this vital service to our
students.
There are various types of advisors in the College of
Letters & Science. Academic Staff departmental advisors generally
advise students interested in specific academic majors and certificates and
often on degree requirements. Other professional Academic Staff advisors
are often more generalist advisors or career advisors. They may, for example, work with students who
have not declared their major or advise students regarding potential career
paths. Such advisors may be found in in
the Center for Academic Excellence, the L&S Honors Program, L&S
Academic Advising Services, SuccessWorks, and in the various student support
programs in the College of Letters & Science. Faculty departmental
advisors may do much the same but may also advise graduate students, guiding
them in their academic experience in a discipline.
Two L&S Advising Awards will be awarded each of which
includes a monetary award of $3,500. Evaluation criteria and the
nomination process including the application cover document can be found with
the links below.
