  3. There are two ways to create a new dashboard:
    • Click on the Cherwell universal "new item" icon (a white plus sign within a green circle) OR
    • Right click in right-most pane in the Dashboard Manger and select "New"

  4. After creating a new dashboard, the Dashboard Properties window will appear, which is split into two separate sections, along with an additional options button in the lower left-hand corner. These can be accessed after dashboard creation in the Dashboard Editor.

    • Dashboard
      • Name: Dashboard's file name used in the Dashboard Manager. This must be unique within the overall parent folder in which it is being stored (e.g. There cannot be two "US Help Desk" dashboards within the User folder, regardless of where the two dashboards might be stored within the User folder)
      • Description: This field can be used to further describe the purpose of the dashboard or its specific uses
      • Title Text: The text here is used for quick identification of the dashboard once it is opened. It has no bearing on the file name.
        • Note: the ampersand (&) will not appear in this space.
      • Associate: Associates the dashboard with a specific Business Object (Incidents, Change Requests, Tasks, etc.) It makes the New Item icon (green circle with a white plus sign) default to the selected associated object (i.e. an Incident associated dashboard would make the icon default to creating a new incident upon selection. A selection of "None" will make the icon give a dropdown list of options (which also appears in specifically associated dashboards when selecting the triangle next to the New Item icon)
    • Options
      • Display
        • Theme - This decides the default colors and fonts for the various widgets. A new theme can be created by selecting a theme and clicking on the nearby button with an ellipsis on it. The checkbox beneath the theme selection bar allows for theme changes without entering the editor by right clicking on empty space and choosing an option from User Theme.
        • Minimums - These set the minimum width and height of the dashboard.
      • Filter
        • "Initial filter criteria are the last used criteria" - the dashboard should use the most recently used filter criteria when opening the dashboard
        • "Initial filter criteria are the widget default criteria" - the most recent filter criteria used by the dashboard should not be used; always allow the widgets to use their default filters
        • Refresh
        • "Refresh reloads all Metrics" - Set the metrics used in dashboard widgets to refresh when the dashboard is refreshed manually.
        • "Refresh all widgets every: [#] [Time]" - Set all the widgets to refresh at specific intervals. Widgets generally refresh every 5 minutes and the other checkbox allows for them to follow their own schedules, but this can be both adjusted and turned off on a dashboard-specific-basis with these selections.
    • Options Button - This opens an additional options window.

      • Availability: Allows the visibility of the dashboard to be changed without moving the dashboard file in the Dashboard Manager. Can change to User, Role, Team, or Global.
      • Association: Allows the association of the dashboard to be changed with some granularity: depending on the selected availability, the association options will be presented. For example, if Team is selected in Availability, the teams of the current user will be options in this area.
        • Note: This will move the dashboard file to the overall folder selected. An inner folder cannot be selected for specific storage without moving it in the Dashboard Manager.
      • Custom Image: Changes the icon associated with the dashboard in the Dashboard Manager
      • Current folder: Shows the current location of the folder before the changes to Availability and Association are made (if applicable)
      • Click "OK" to save any changes or "Cancel" to not save. Either button will return to the Dashboard Properties window.

  5. After all desired changes are made, click "OK" to enter the Dashboard Editor.
