AANTS - How Do I Find The Technical and/or Administrative Contacts For My VLAN?

Describes the procedure for determining technical and administrative contacts for a VLAN using the WiscNIC query page.

WiscNIC VLAN and Subnet records have Administrative, Technical and optional Security Contacts associated with them, either individually by WiscNIC Handle or preferentially by WiscNIC Group Handle. Historically, technical contacts and administrative contacts for VLANs were listed on the VLAN's subnet records in the WiscNIC database, which can be tied to VLANs using 'route' records, but now EdgeConf depends on the WiscNIC VLAN Admin-C/Tech-C records for access control.

WiscNIC Search

You can find the subnet for a given VLAN using https://aants.net.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/WiscnicSearch.cgi or via the Search form at the top of any AANTS page by looking up a specific VLAN or related Subnet record.

For example search for the VLAN 2-LAB or a related Subnet 192.0.2.0/24 may return a record like this:

vlan: 2-LAB
name: TECHLAB-CUSTOMER-1
descr: Techlab scoped vlan to test Edgeconf
admin-c: BBADMIN
tech-c: BBTECH
sec-c: BBSEC

remarks:
reason: Software testing

Where the Administrative Contact WiscNIC Handle is BBADMIN and should be a clickable link which will search WiscNIC for the contact record which includes Name, Email and Phone Number. Direct contact between collaborative administrators of UW networks is encouraged to coordinate use of shared resources, such as switchports which service multiple departments.
