Office 365 - Manage sync and notification settings on your mobile device

When configuring your Office 365 account on a mobile device, certain mail sync/notifications are automatically enabled that you may want to reconfigure. Use the instructions below to manage how often your device requests to receive emails and what type of notification you receive once a message arrives in your account.

Note: The instructions below may also work for non-Office 365 accounts.


iOS 8

Sync Settings: Push/Fetch/Manual

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

  3. Select Fetch New Data.

  4. To disable push notifications for all your mail accounts
    Click the slider next to "Push".
    To manage notifications for a specific mail account
    Select the specific mail account and make the desired change. If you select "Fetch", you can return to the previous screen and select how often to fetch data (every 15 minutes, every 30 minutes, hourly, or manually).
    Note: Prior versions of iOS may have different options/capabilities.

Notifications

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select Notifications.

  3. Select Mail from the list of applications.

  4. Select the Office 365 you want to manage.

  5. To disable notifications for all your mail accounts
    Click the slider next to "Allow Notification".
    To manage notifications for a specific mail account
    Select the specific mail account and make the desired changes.
    Note: Prior versions of iOS may have different options/capabilities.

Windows Phone 8

Sync Settings: Push/Fetch/Manual

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select email+account.

  3. Select the Office 365 you want to manage.

  4. Select Download new content and select the desired delivery option.

Notifications

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Select notifications+actions.

  3. Select the Office 365 account you want to manage and modify the desired actions.

Android 5 (Lollipop)

Sync Settings: Push/Fetch/Manual

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. From the "General" tab, select Accounts.

  3. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

  4. Select Settings from within "Common Settings" area.

  5. Select your Office 365 account.

  6. Select Sync settings.

  7. Select the desired modification you want to make: Sync Email, Sync schedule, Period to sync Email, and Size to retrieve emails.

Notifications

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. From the "General" tab, select Accounts.

  3. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.

  4. Select Settings from within "Common Settings" area.

  5. Select your Office 365 account.

  6. Within the "Ge"Select your Office 365 account

  7. Within the "Notification Settings" area, select the option you want to manage and modify the desired actions.
