KB User's Guide - Documents tab - Embed PDF file into a KB document

This document will walk you through the steps to embed a PDF file into your KB document by using the embed tag.

Step One: Identify the Embed Source Value

The embed source value is simply https://kb.wisc.edu/ appended with the image path images/groupxx/XXXXXX/filename.pdf

The example of the embedded PDF file below uses the file path /images/group41/49980/DeptDerm_Sample.pdf

filepath

Step Two: Copy the embed code into the HTML editor of your KB document.

In the example below, we are using a flowchart PDF file.

<embed src="PDF File Path" width="600" height="450">

The embedded PDF example below is using this embed code:

<embed src="https://kb.wisc.edu/images/group41/49980/Dept_Dermatology.pdf" width="600" height="450">

  • Note: The HEIGHT and WIDTH properties of either tag define the size of the window in which the PDF file is displayed. You may need to go back into the embed code and adjust the height and width.

Step Three: Place the file link into the KB document

You may also give your users the option to view the PDF file in its own window by placing the link in the KB document along with text saying, "If you would like to see this PDF in its own window, please click here..."

To do this, find the place on your document where you want the PDF link to appeat and click on the Place file link in the appropriate attachment folder.
