Learn@UW - Troubleshooting Problems when Accessing Files from the Locker

This document describes procedures for resolving problems when attempting to access files from your locker.

When attempting to access files from your locker, the following problems may occur:

  • Error when attempting to download file using "Save Target As"
  • "Bad Request" when attempting to open file
  • "Internal Server Error" when attempting to open file
  • Browser apparently hangs (nothing happens) when attempting to open file
  • "Internal Server Error" when attempting to delete file

If you experience any of these problems, first check for invalid characters in the Locker file names. Refer to Learn@UW - Special Characters in File and Folder Names.

Next, proceed as follows according to your symptoms:

Error when attempting to download file using "Save Target As"

"Bad Request" when attempting to open file

  • If the file name contains invalid characters, delete the file and upload the file from your machine, after renaming the file, as necessary, so the file name is valid.
  • If the file name is valid but still cannot be opened, ask for assistance. If you are at UW-Madison, please contact the DoIT Help Desk. Otherwise, contact your campus help desk.

"Internal Server Error" when attempting to open file

or

Browser apparently hangs (nothing happens) when attempting to open file

  • If the file name contains invalid characters, delete the file and upload the file from your machine, after renaming the file, as necessary, so the file name is valid.
  • If the file name is valid but still cannot be opened, first try deleting the file and upload it again from your machine. If the problem persists, ask for assistance. If you are at UW-Madison, please contact the DoIT Help Desk. Otherwise, contact your campus help desk.

"Internal Server Error" when attempting to delete file

  • If the file name contains invalid characters, and you are not able to delete the file yourself, ask for assistance. If you are at UW-Madison, please contact the DoIT Help Desk. Otherwise, contact your campus help desk.
  • If the file name is valid, try again to delete the file. If the problem persists, ask for assistance. If you are at UW-Madison, please contact the DoIT Help Desk. Otherwise, contact your campus help desk.
