[ay 15-16] Moodle - Extending Quiz Time for Individuals/Groups

UW-Madison has adopted Canvas as its single, centrally supported learning management system. As of 6/1/2018, support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and most Moodle courses has been discontinued. Access to those courses has permanently ended. However, certain Moodle courses that are part of the Adanced Quizzing Content Functional Gaps project are still available on Moodle. Those courses are located on the Moodle Extension site.

This article outlines how to put some students into a group and how to use that group to give extended quizzes.

This article briefly outlines how to grant students additional time for a quiz/test. If there is only one student that needs extended time, you can skip to the User/Group overrides section and use User overrides. If there is a group of students that need the same accommodation, it is best practice to put these students into a group and use Group overrides.

Putting students into a group (recommended when accommodating multiple students)

If you already have the students that need extended time into a group, you can skip to the next section.

To put students into a group:
1.) On the course home page go to the administration block and select "Users" then "Groups"

2.) Select the "Create Group" button

3.) Give the group a name. All other fields on this page are optional but not required. Select "Save Changes"
4.) To add the necessary students to the group, select the group on the left panel and select "Add/Remove Users" under the right panel

5.) Using the right panel or the search bar under the right panel, select the group members that you want to be in the group and select "Add" for each one. All the students that you want to be in the group should now be in the box on the left. When you're done select "back to groups"

User/Group Overrides to Give Extended Time on Quiz

Once you have a group of students to give extended time to, use these steps to give them the extended time.
1.) Select the quiz where the students should have extended time.
2.) In the administration block on the left, Select "Group Overrides" if you have a group of students, or "User overrides" if you have only one.

User/group Overrides

3.) Select the Group/user that needs extended time, and enter in how much time you'd like this group to have after enabling it with the checkbox next to the "Time Limit" field. When you're done, hit "Save" at the bottom

Now You're Done! Your student(s) should have extended time when they take their quiz.
