ShareURL - How to View a Shared Calendar in Google Calendar

This document describes how to view a Office 365 shared Calendar in Google Calendar.

  1. Log into Google Calendar via a browser.
  2. On the left-side list of existing calendars, click on the Add link under "Others calendars".
  3. Select Add by URL.
  4. Enter the desired share url, e.g.:,30)?ical

You are free to choose the date range of your choice, however you must include the "?ical" at the end (so the iCalendar formatted data is the result).
  5. Click on the Add button to create the calendar and return to the previous calendar view.

It may take some time between when you store your calendar share url in Google Calendar and when events actually show up in Google Calendar. We find that Google does not request the share url until some variable time later, from a few minutes to an hour or more. Empirical evidence tells us that Google will fetch your calendar about once per day. The Office 365 team has no control over this, nor are there any settings in Google Calendar to change the frequency.

Google sets the name of the calendar to the URL that you use. Once the calendar has been created, to change the name of the calendar, click on the Manage Calendars link below the list of calendars on the left. On the resulting page, click on the name of the calendar you want to modify, then enter in the Calendar Name: field a description/name of your choice. Click on the Save button to finish.

Important: "Your mileage may vary" with the ability of 3rd party applications to be able to parse the iCalendar data properly. You won't be able to create new events in the Office 365 account associated with the share via this mechanism either.
