Course Quizzes Report

UW-Madison has adopted Canvas as its single, centrally supported learning management system. As of 6/1/2018, support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and most Moodle courses has been discontinued. Access to those courses has permanently ended. However, certain Moodle courses that are part of the Adanced Quizzing Content Functional Gaps project are still available on Moodle. Those courses are located on the Moodle Extension site.

Course quizzes is a custom plugin written by Teaching and Research Application Development group within Academic Technology. It allows you to manage questions in more of a repository format, that also allows you to print questions, as well as add questions directly to a quiz from the repository.

Getting to the report

As an instructor, you will be able to find this report within the Course administration section and then in the reports drop open section.  Clicking on this will take you to the main report page.

The courses quizzes will open up to this page, where you will see the quiz questions in a categorical layout.

Here is the list of your quiz questions layed out in categories

Using the report

The main page has three main parts:
  • Category filter - drop down menu found in the top left corner of you Moodle page.
  • Action buttons - the "Print Questions" and "Add to quiz" options.
  • Questions - found in the individual categories.

Category Filter

It will start with 'top' selected.  This will show all of the questions you have available in Moodle.  By clicking on the box you can select sub categories and filter the questions that are displayed below in the Questions section.

Action Buttons

There are 2 action buttons that allow you to do 2 different things.  You will need to select questions from the categories list below of questions, for the action buttons to work.

Print Questions Action

Printing questions will allow you to print the selected questions to screen.  From there you can print the open popup to a PDF or to a printer to be able to review the questions.

Note:  Please note that some question types are interactive, and because of that, there is no clear way to print them out.  Questions of these types will appear just as they would initially appear for students within Moodle.

Add to Quiz Action

On this page you will see all of the questions you selected on the previous page listed at the top.  Below you will see a list of all of the quizzes that are currently in this course.  Clicking the "Add" button in front of any quiz will create a copy of the selected questions inside that quiz.  This means that if a questions is edited later in the quiz itself, it won't change the question in the question bank.
