WiscList (Advanced) - Changing List Email Headers (To, From, Reply-To)

The To, From, and Reply-To headers in WiscList messages can be modified by list administrators.

Configuring Headers

  1. Log into the WiscList ListManager interface. See: WiscList - Advanced List Management (List Manager).
  2. Verify the list you want to work with is selected. See: WiscList (Advanced) - Working with Multiple Lists.
  3. Click the Utilities button in the left-hand navigational menu to open the Utilities submenu.
  4. Highlight List Settings, then click email Submitted Content.
  5. Click the Header Rewrites tab.
  6. Enter the information you want displayed in the From header. You can choose from the following:
    1. If left blank, the name and email address of the author will be used.
    2. Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
    3. Note: If specifying the from address, please adhere precisely to the above format.

  7. Enter the information you want displayed in the Reply To header. You can choose from the following:
    1. Enter nochange to use the header as received. This is typically the name and address of the author.
    2. If left blank, the address of the list is used.
    3. Enter author to use the name and address of the author.
    4. Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
  8. Enter the information you want displayed in the To header. You can choose from the following:
    1. Enter nochange to use the header as received. This is typically the address of the list and any additional lists the mailing was sent to at the same time.
    2. If left blank, the address of the list is used. Additional people/lists the email were sent to will not be shown
    3. Enter %%nameemail%% to use the name and address of the recipient (this changes per recipient).
    4. Specific email address (joesmith@wisc.edu) with optional name ("Joe Smith" <joesmith@wisc.edu>).
  9. Note: Be aware that if you enter a specific email address into any of these fields, you will likely conceal the author and/or the email address of the list, which are both vital for proper communication on a list.
  10. Click Save.
