Block Windows 10 Notificatioin Upgrade for Windows 7

Registry modification to block Windows 10 upgrade notification on a Windows 7 system. This information is intended for users with knowledge and comfort level in making modification to a computer system registry. Please contact your onsite technical support staff before attempting to modify a computer owned and supported by your organization. Computers shipped with a professional/enterprise version of Windows 7 that are not joined to a Domain can present user with option to upgrade OS; this is predicated on the version of Windows 7. 1.Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx
- note, if Gwx key does not exist, create the key.
2.Create a new REG_DWORD registry value called: DisableGwx
3.Give it a value of: 1

Note KB3035583 is the reason for the notification, while this can be removed, it will be reinstalled during the next system automated check for windows updates. This registry modification blocks the notice, the KB and update are still available. It is possible that Microsoft will bye pass the Domain based block and the KB will be relevant enabling the system tray notification.
