D2L - Building Your Course in the Course Builder (Doc 123) (UW-Madison)

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

This document is associated with the task, "Build Your Course Structure and Navigation." Course Builder is a drag and drop tools that allows instructors to design their course using place holders, already created activities and files. Unlike the Table of Contents tool, course builder allows instructors to build a course even if the details of activities or the content of files hasn't been created.

Introduction:  The Course Builder Tool is a drag and drop way of outline a course in D2L.  What makes it a bit different from the Table of Contents (other than the obvious way it looks) is that it can be populated with place holders, rather than requiring the actual file or activity.  This is an advantage if an instructor wishes to map a course in its entirety even if course materials are not quite ready.

D2L sometimes provide videos in their support materials that are more straightforward than just written documents.  Such  is the case with the Course Builder Tool, and because it is such a visual tool, videos are more appropriate than written directions.
