WiscWeb CMS - Hosting Options
This document explains the different hosting options for WiscWeb CMS and how the CMS interacts with each option.
How does WiscWeb CMS interact with hosting servers?
WiscWeb CMS operates independently of your website. This means that the CMS and your website are hosted on different servers, and do not rely on each other for availability. This means at any given time, four scenarios exist:
- The CMS is available for you to edit your website and your website is up. This is the most common scenario, when both the CMS and your website's host server are both up and running.
- The CMS is available for you to edit your website and your website is down. This scenario occurs when the CMS is up but your website's host server is down. The CMS is still available, and you can make edits and be ready to publish them when your website's host server comes back up.
- The CMS is not available for you to edit your website and your website is up. This occurs when the CMS is down for maintenance, patching, or an outage and your website's host server is up and running. This allows your site to remain operational even if the CMS is down.
- The CMS is not available for you to edit your website and your website is down. Since most hosting is on campus, this is a rare scenario and generally only occurs during a power outage or major IT failure.
