UW-Madison - IT Policy - Copyright

UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff must respect copyright law and only copy material with the permission of the copyright holder or when permitted under "fair use".

For more information on fair use, please see the description of fair use at the U.S. Copyright Office.

The UW System Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources Policy requires that everyone obey relevant laws when using UW System resources. That includes copyright law.

Copyright holders can protect their rights by filing a complaint with UW-Madison. The institution is obligated to investigate, provide relevant information about the alleged copyright infringement, and take steps to prevent continued infringement. For more information on this see Copyright Infringement.
