How do I submit an exception to make an adjustment to a student's L&S program requirements?

The following section explains how authorized individuals in L&S major departments/units can submit exceptions to major requirements for processing and review to L&S Academic Information Management (AIM).

DARSX is an on-line system used to make exceptions or adjustments to L&S academic requirements as they are reflected on the DARS for individual students.

DARSX provides an accurate depiction of curricular requirements based on the date of matriculation to UW-Madison and declaration of major/certificate program by combining current student information and L&S degree program information.

Common types of exceptions are approving a course not currently coded to meet a program requirement or exchanging a required course for another course the student has completed.  Submitting an exception allows academic advisors or Assistant Deans to recognize individual educational experience while upholding the academic rigor of the program.

Exceptions can only be submitted by academic program advisors or an Assistant Dean in the L&S Student Academic Affairs Academic Deans’ Services office.  The link to submit an exceptions from the DARSX site is

If you have questions about submitting exceptions, or need to request authorization to submit exceptions, contact the Office of Academic Information Management (AIM) at AIM@SAA.LS.WISC.EDU.
