ECMS - Recommended Steps When Installing the ImageNow Client ver 7.1 in Different Situations

Recommended Steps When Installing the ImageNow Client ver 7.1 in Different Situations
[Doc 8386 content is unavailable at this time.]

About client 7.1 generally:

  • Previous clients (e.g., ver 6.7) will not connect to a 7.1 version server.
  • Note that ALL of the situations below require ADMINISTRATIVE access to the LOCAL workstation. If you do not have local admin access to your workstation the steps below will NOT help, contact your workstation support.
  • Also be aware that ImageNow client ver 7.1 whether upgrading or performing an upgrade will install to a separate file path C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow6.
  • Client configuration files as referenced in the "backup the config files" sections below are usable by both version.
  • From DoIT DS this observation, which they are able to reproduce - "It looks like what happens is if you uninstall the old client, and then install the new client without first restarting, it will try a half-baked upgrade install and keep the old inowprint.ini file that has the wrong path."

Steps for different client installation scenarios:

  1. Modify install: Sometimes performing a "modify" of the client will address issues without a full uninstall and reinstall of the client.
    1. Back up the config files
      • %AppData%\ImageNow\imagenow.ini, indevice.xml and inscan.xml and
      • c:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow\etc\inowprint.ini
    2. Go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program > Perceptive Content Desktop Client > Change > Perceptive Content Desktop Client > Next > Modify
    3. Add the components you wish to reinstall and make sure to choose "This feature and all subfeatures will be installed on local hard drive".
    4. Complete the modification by clicking Next and Install.
    5. If your capture profiles and other settings are missing, your backup files should be copied into the relevant directories.
    6. If this does not address the issue you may have to do a full uninstall and then a "New install".
  2. New install
    1. Install the client using the instructions at https://kb.wisc.edu/ecms/page.php?id=31846
      • When you get to step #2 "The installer will ask for the Deploytment Server URL." DO NOT put anything in the PEDS line when configuring the client (leave it blank, if something is there, delete it).
    2. If you have any configuration files you wish to use for your install, now is the time to copy them to the relevant locations.
    3. Next verify these edits have been made to the inowprint.ini file as discussed in this KB https://kb.wisc.edu/ecms/page.php?id=31875
  3. Manual upgrade of client 6.7 to 7.1
    1. Back up the config files
      • %AppData%\ImageNow\imagenow.ini, indevice.xml and inscan.xml and
      • c:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow\etc\inowprint.ini
    3. Next verify these edits have been made to the inowprint.ini file as discussed in this KB https://kb.wisc.edu/ecms/page.php?id=31875
    4. If you lose your capture profiles and other settings copy the files you backed up in step a, above to the relevant locations.
