Canvas - Getting started with Canvas at UW-Madison (UW-Madison)

This document outlines resources on how to get started with Canvas at UW-Madison.

Please refrain from developing new CSCR modules. The university plans to replace the tool due to the potential challenges with migrating content and integrating with Canvas.

Those who wish to continue using previously developed modules may do so, but should be aware of future plans to migrate content into another authoring tool that will integrate with Canvas. Additional information regarding these plans should be available summer/fall 2017. For more information on Canvas, please see https://canvasinfo.wisc.edu/. For a recommendation on what to use in the meantime, please contact your unit’s instructional technologist.

Credit-based Courses Available in Canvas

All credit-based courses are now available in Canvas and can be accessed by logging into the Learn@UW Course Dashboard. Faculty and instructional staff should contact the designated instructional technology point-person for their school or college to help plan for their transition to Canvas.

Plans for Non-Credit Courses

The UW-Madison Canvas Transition Team is focused on transitioning credit-based courses to Canvas, first. The team is not yet in a position to support the transition of non-credit courses at this time. This is true regardless of whether or not the non-credit course participants have NetID’s. The Canvas Transition Team will communicate a timeline for non-credit course conversions to Canvas in early January 2017.

Canvas sandbox courses are available for those who wish to experiment with Canvas and begin designing courses in the meantime. Requests can be submitted through the Canvas Sandbox Course Request form.
