# Learn@UW/D2L - Problem Providing Feedback for Calculation Questions in Self Assessment

If a Self Assessment contains *calculation* type questions with variables that may have more than one combination of values leading to multiple possible answers, you cannot provide the correct answer to the feedback viewed by the student.

This applies to "Arithmetic" and "Significant Figures" questions.

For example, if the formula is "{x} + {y}" and the generated values among
multiple possibilities are x=13 and y=24, there is no way of returning the
value 37 to the feedback.
If you specify the feedback as **{x} + {y}**, that is not evaluated.

You can only provide meaningful feedback to calculation type questions if a unique set of variable values are generated so you can explicitly enter the answer for the feedback. The 'Min' and 'Max' values for each variable would have to be the same.

This is a known issue.
