This document will explain how to make your Office 2007 documents compatible with earlier versions of Office.
BackgroundMicrosoft Office 2007 saves files in a different format than in previous versions of Office. For example, in previous versions of Word, documents, by default, were saved with the .doc extension. Now, Word 2007, by default, saves documents with the .docx extension. This extension is unreadable by versions of Word other than Word 2007. The procedure to make a 2007 document compatible with earlier versions of Office is as follows.
- Click the Office Button
- Hover the cursor above "Save As", a menu should appear to the right.
- Select "<Program Name> 97-2003 Document". Where "<Program Name>" is the name of the program
in which you are using.
- Enter a filename in which you want the document to be called in the "File Name" field
- Click "Save"
- Your Office document is now compatible with earlier versions of Office.
