Canvas - Access for Non-UW Personnel (UW-Madison)

This article describes the steps for allowing someone outside of UW-Madison (e.g. Someone from industry that's helping teach a class) access to Canvas.

Introduction 

All access to Canvas is provided via NetID accounts.  Non-UW personnel who need access to Canvas will need to obtain a NetID. The mechanism for getting a NetID for Non-UW people is "Manifest." Please note that Manifest NetID accounts should not be permanent accounts and will have an expiration/termination date assigned to them upon creation.

For One Person/Small Group of People  (Less than 10)

  • Gather the person(s)'s name and email that needs access to the Canvas course, as well as how long the access would be required (for instance, until the end of the current academic term, etc.)
  • Email this information to learnuwsupport@doit.wisc.edu.
  • NOTE: This process can take several days to be created, so allow adequate time for the NetID creation process.

For a Large Group of People (or people that will need access to extensive amounts of time)

  • Please email learnuwsupport@doit.wisc.edu for assistance. Please include the following information in the email: Nature of the students who need access, the number of students, and how long access will be required.
