Using SFTP to a Virtual Host (vhost)

instructions for using sftp to a vhost on

CAE will continue to support existing vhosts through the migration to DoIT platforms. This should be completed by the end of 2019.

Once your vhost is created there are many ways of accessing it via sftp. The preferred method is to sftp to the hostname with the port set to 22. The benefits are:
  1. The default permissions are group readable and writable and no permissions for anyone else (i.e. umask 007). This means that by default any files uploaded will have the correct permissions
  2. The sftp service on is actively monitored. Staff will be notified if the service goes down.
By default, the home directory on is /home/vhosts. From there you can change to your virtual host.
