Determining physical address ( AKA MAC address or Ethernet address)

How to determine the physical/MAC/ethernet address of your computer

Sometimes, you'll need to know the physical address of your computer, sometimes known as MAC address or Ethernet address.

To do this in Windows, open your Start/Windows menu, and type "cmd" (without quotes) to search for command line, then hit Enter to open a command line window.

In command line, type "ipconfig /all" (no quotes) and hit Enter. This will print out three groupings of information. Within the "Ethernet adapter Ethernet" grouping, the Physical Address is listed in the third row.

Coincidentally, you can also find your computer's name listed as "Host Name" under the Windows IP Configuration grouping (for more info, see internal KB doc Finding the name of your computer (Windows, Linux, Mac) ).
