Internship Opportunities:

Endpoint Management and Compliance Intern

The DoIT Departmental Support Security and Application Support team serves the administrative, academic, and research technology support needs of students, departments and faculty/staff on the UW Madison campus. Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director of User Services - Departmental Support, this position participates on the Security and Application Support (SAS) team, within the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). Security and Application Support technicians perform technology troubleshooting for a wide variety of technology-driven devices, services, and solutions. In a typical year, more than 70 unique departments receive support from DoIT Departmental Support.

As a Security and Application Support technician, you will work with a variety of campus customers to assist in the planning, deployment and daily support of endpoints in use around campus. This will involve resolving customer issues, documenting changes to devices within a change management system and deploying new and replacement systems for a diverse customer and product base. The responsibilities also include modifying Windows Group Policies, host-based firewall rules, antivirus settings and user accounts. This position requires an individual who has acquired a broad knowledge of general IT concepts, principles, practices, and techniques and whose expertise must span multiple technologies across network, hardware, and software platforms. This position will be 40 hours per week.

Help Desk Marketing Internship

The Marketing Intern will help find new ways to reach students, faculty, and staff to ensure they know about the free resources offered by the DoIT Help Desk. Additionally, the intern will help market student Help Desk positions to reach a wider and more diverse audience. The internship will consist of three phases: 

  • Phase 1 - Learn what services the Help Desk provides and our current marketing efforts. 
  • Phase 2 - Provide three proposals (low, medium, and high resource) on how to increase our marketing efforts both for our services and as an employer.
  • Phase 3 - Implement the selected plan and give specific outlines of how to continue our marketing efforts on an ongoing basis. 
The intern will have the opportunity to work alongside students and full-time staff in a fun team environment. Finally, the intern would become a member of our departmental marketing team. This position will be between 30 - 40 hours per week. 


Departmental Support Asset Management Internship

The goal of this internship is to develop a robust asset tracking system. This system will allow Departmental Support to increase efficiency with a more accurate inventory of managed machines. You will be responsible for gathering requirements for this system and for creating procedures, documentation, and scripts to ensure that the system is easy to use and provides easy access to the information. During this process, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the Endpoint Management team and others, gaining experience using a variety of enterprise tools as you assist in integrating this system with the existing data and tools. This position will be 40 hours per week.


Product Management and Lifecycle Internship

This internship position will work with the Product Management Team and others to recommend, analyze, discuss, prepare and approve products and business lines for the DoIT Tech Store. You will collaborate with product managers and other DoIT groups to review and analyze continuing, changing or dropping products. Additionally, you will coordinate delivery of product information to tech store consulting staff and to our on-line catalog and order-entry systems. You will focus on managing and maintaining on-line product information and recommending industry best practices; this will be especially important with the launch of the new Tech Store e-commerce website. This position will be 40 hours per week. There is an immediate opening for this position.


SOAR Team Lead and Marketing Internship

This internship position will be dedicated to SOAR events and related Product Management and Tech Store activities that support incoming students and their families. This position will be part of a cross functional team of full-time staff that assist with promoting the DoIT brand through all SOAR-related activities. You will assist in planning and coordination of SOAR Presentations; serve as team lead of the student presenters, participate in the presentation trainings leading up to SOAR, create and manage the presentation schedule throughout the entire SOAR program and participate as a lead presenter. You will assist in planning and coordination of SOAR resource fairs and other related events, as well as collect, analyze and report out data from al events. Additionally, you will provide product consultations in the Tech Store during peak SOAR sales periods. This position will be 40 hours per week. There is an immediate opening for this position.

Business Process Analyst (Computer Repair)

At DoIT, we believe in providing you with experiences and responsibilities that will prepare you for life after school. In this position, you will work closely with the Repair team lead to review the repair process from intake to output, looking for ways to improve operations. This process will require you to align operations with larger strategic objectives, being mindful of financial implications. Your tasks will include learning basic hardware and software repair skills, analyzing and improving operational processes, and presenting sound business cases to DoIT leadership.

Training and Documentation Design Internship

As a Training and Documentation Intern, you will assist with our development of the Cherwell Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) tool in the areas of knowledge base documentation, ongoing user training curriculum, and incident procedural information for up to 900 categorizations that will be deployed within Cherwell. For the duration of the summer, you will be part of a cohort of Interns who are working on various projects throughout User Services and will have the opportunity to work alongside students and full-time staff in a fun team environment.
