NetID Deactivation - Summer 2017
This document details the Summer 2017 NetID Deactivation process.
Beginning June 13, 2017, DoIT will begin the process of deactivating NetIDs and UW-Madison services for people who have not been NetID-eligible for two or more years. This includes former applicants who never matriculated to UW Madison, and former faculty and staff. The deactivation schedule is detailed below.
What will happen to my NetID and Services?
When your NetID is disabled, you will no longer be able to log into any website or system that is protected with NetID Login. This includes, but is not limited to: MyUW, Office 365, Learn@UW Google Apps, and Box.
If you have forwarded your UW email to another address, this forward will be removed when your NetID is disabled. Email forwards will not be reinstated.
30 days after your NetID has been disabled, your NetID will be deleted, your access to UW services will be permanently removed, and all data associated with your account will be permanently deleted.
Note: This does not affect transcripts, tax information, or other UW records. Those will continue to be available from their respective UW-Madison offices.
What if I’m still using my NetID or UW services?
Please backup your data prior to the NetID disable date (see schedule below). Any data that has not been backed up will be permanently lost after your NetID has been deleted. There is no way to recover data that has been deleted. To get help backing up your data, contact the DoIT Help Desk.
I still have a current affiliation with the UW. How do I appeal the deactivation?
Contact the DoIT Help Desk to open a ticket. The ticket will be sent to the NetID team who will review your appeal. Note that only those who are current employees, students, or emeritus faculty, staff, or retirees will be allowed to retain access to their NetID and services. No other appeals will be considered.
Affected users will be notified in advance of their upcoming NetID disable and deactivation dates. This communication will provide them with time to backup their data prior to losing access.
