Blackboard Collaborate Original/Ultra: Access via My UW (Available 8/1/17)
All UW System faculty and staff will have access to Blackboard's newest version of their web conferencing solution, which is named Collaborate Ultra (v17.*), and continue to have access to Collaborate Original (v12.*). This is made possible by a new widget that is being released to the My UW portal on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
This document explains the options for accessing the Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing service, either Original or Ultra version, from the My UW portal.
Users who have previously added the Web Conferencing widget to their homepage will see this change automatically, while those who haven't will need to perform the simple process for finding and adding it. The following screenshots depict the change in the Web Conferencing widget.

Please note that the widget may appear different on mobile devices as a compact view mode is needed to accommodate a smaller display, such as the following screenshot depicts (see highlighted widget). For more information about the My UW view modes, see MyUW - Expanded and compact widget modes.

What is the difference between Collaborate Original and Ultra?
Collaborate Ultra is the latest version of the web conferencing solution, which provides improvements including:
- Contemporary and improved user experience
- Designed to work fluidly on all devices (mobile or desktop)
- Users can upload content and access it in successive sessions
- Entirely browser-based solution (no dependency on Java)

Can I use both Collaborate Original and Ultra?
Yes, this is possible. However, you will not see the sessions in one location. In other words, the sessions use entirely different versions and one cannot upgrade or downgrade an existing session. If you choose to use both, please exercise caution when sharing links with your audience.
How do I add the widget to my homepage?
The widget will appear on the default homepage for faculty and staff at all UW campuses, with the exception of UW-Madison. UW-Madison users should go the Web Conferencing (Blackboard) widget details page and select the "Add to Home" button. Please note that the widget to be replaced will appear until August 1, 2017.
