IT Orientation Tasks
IT orientation task list for on-boarding new users.
First time login with the temporary password (if necessary, see your supervisor for this information)
User gets prompted to set a password of their choosing.
Passwords must follow UW-Madison - CIO - Password Policy
Search for (magnifying glass lower left) and Pin common apps (IE, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and user requested shortcuts to taskbar.
Note: the Edge browser vs. Internet Explorer icons look very similar (consider pinning IE & unpinning Edge)
Set defaults by app - Set this program as default
Preferred Browser, Adobe Acrobat DC, Outlook, etc.
First time login (Windows)
Outlook desktop usually has the user's pre-loaded email address, if not enter NetID based email address (not the firstname.lastname one).
After short pause the campus sign-on window will appear, have user enter NetID username and password.
After clicking finish, Outlook may take some time before emails begin to populate.

Make sure appropriate/desired network printers are mapped. (Control Panel - Devices and Printers)
Configure network printer settings.
If user is connecting to a printer that requires a Dept. ID (Ex. the HR dept. printer - HSLC-4150-BW-CanoniRC5560i) see the following link:

Install drivers for USB connected printers (if needed)
Suggest adding the below listed Bookmarks/Favorites to their preferred browser. Another option, is to import the SMPH Bookmarks.html file, currently located on the shared drive in N:\PUBLIC\TEMP folder.

Log into "eduroam" wireless.
eduroam requires credentials with the full email address (email@example.com) with NetID password.
Show user how to use VPN for off network access to shared-drive.
Please note that Cisco will no longer work after Dec.2017. There is a new VPN.
