UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.
It is strongly encouraged that, you to make a backup copy of your course. However, Desire2Learn does not offer a single course backup feature, so a few different export processes are necessary to get all course data.
The following information will guide you in how to backup your course data.
Once an export is completed, it is good practice to password protect the grade book file. Consult one of the following tutorials to learn how to encrypt an exported grade book file (depending on your computer's operating system):
Desire2Learn has the ability to download user submissions for a single Dropbox folder. The Dropbox tool does not allow for an export of all Dropbox folders and their associated submissions. Download Discussion Postings
There is no export tool to export discussion topics/messages in the discussions area of Desire2Learn but there is a work-a-round to archive discussion postings from inside a course. Download Quiz Statistics and Reports
Statistics for quizzes can be downloaded to as a .csv file that can be opened with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet applications. You can also save a Report for a quiz as .csv file.
