How to Download Data from D2L and Moodle
UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.
Instructions for preserving the information you may have within D2L and Moodle.
If you would like to retain data from prior courses in D2L or Moodle, we encourage you to take the necessary steps to archive your course content. To archive course content from D2L, please follow the instructions in this KnowledgeBase article. To archive course content from Moodle, please see this KnowledgeBase article.
Keep in mind that student content and grades are sensitive information regulated by University FERPA policies, defined here. As such, they should be stored in a secure location. Box is one acceptable repository for such content (see the “responsible use” section). If you would like guidance on the best storage method and location for your needs, it's recommended that you contact the UW-Madison Office of CyberSecurity.
Please note that if you are utilizing a mobile app related to D2L, such as Assignment Grader or others, those applications will no longer offer you access to D2L after June 1, 2018.
StudentsYou are encouraged to download D2L and Moodle course materials as needed in order to retain access to them after June 1, 2018.
- If you have created a D2L ePortfolio, you will need to take steps to preserve it in a cloud-hosted environment provided by D2L.
