Firefox Bookmark Toolbar -- multi-line support

How to add multi-line support

By default, the Bookmark Toolbar in Firefox is single line, and if you have more bookmarks (or folders) than there is horizontal space, and the >> "more" arrows appear.

If you would rather it wrapped, giving you multi-lines of Bookmark Toolbars, you'll need to create a specific css file.

  • Easiest way is to go to the hamburger menu in the top right of Firefox window
  • Select (maybe in a help submenu) "Troubleshooting Information"
  • From the page that loads, click the Open button next to "Profile Folder"
  • Create a new folder called "Chrome" inside the profile folder (the profile folder will be a series of numbers and characters ie "mjupqe2d.default-..." )
  • Inside the chrome folder create a css file called userChrome.css

Restart firefox.  The multi-lines will show up if you shrink the window size allowing you emulate someone who has many bookmarks.

/* Multi-Row Bookmarks Toolbar */
#PersonalToolbar {
/* Provide room for up to 4 rows at 26px */
max-height: 104px !important;
#PlacesToolbarItems > box {
display: inline-block !important;
#PersonalToolbar #PlacesToolbarItems {
/* Override hiding */
overflow-x: visible !important;
overflow-y: visible !important;
/* Add a little cushion */
padding-bottom: 1px;
#PersonalToolbar #PlacesToolbarItems .bookmark-item {
/* Reduce padding on individual bookmarks to fit rows closer together */
padding-top: 1px !important;
padding-bottom: 1px !important;

#PersonalToolbar {max-height:19px}
