Activate Your CAE Account

How to activate your CAE account

There are two methods of opening a CAE Account. In order for this to work, you need to be a student enrolled in an engineering course, be employed by the College of Engineering, or have been granted an account requested by a faculty or staff member within the College of Engineering. If you are a student, the process may not work until the weekday after you obtain your UW ID card.

Note: You should only run newuser once. Also, be sure to choose a password with 8 or more characters, following the CAE password guidelines.

Option 1: Online from a computer outside the labs

Go to the CAE Home Page and click on the Activate Your Account link at the left. You will need to know your UW ID number and your date of birth.  This means that you will have to have activated your NetID already.

Option 2: On a machine in our labs

Once you have completed the process, wait at least 15 minutes before you log into a CAE computer, to allow time for all CAE's servers to get the updated account information.

    1. Go to a Windows machine in a CAE Lab. We have a list of labs on our Labs page.
    2. Simultaneously press: Ctrl, Alt, and Del
    3. Fill in newuser as your name and leave the password blank. Hit Enter.
    4. After the computer logs on, a window will open directing you through the rest of the process, please contact the CAE helpdesk if you have any questions or run into any errors.
Note: Do not complete this process if you are planning to request a login name other than the choices you are offered.  Once your account is activated, your login name will not be changed unless there are extraordinary circumstances.
