D2L - Visitor-Auditor Role (UW-Madison)

UW-Madison is adopting Canvas as the single, centrally supported learning management system, and discontinuing support for Desire2Learn (D2L) and Moodle. Access to D2L and Moodle will permanently end June 1, 2018. For information about retaining materials from D2L or Moodle, please refer to this document.

The D2L Visitor-Auditor role allows Instructors to assign guest access to users within a D2L course.

Anyone assigned this role can view basic tools, such as Content and Quizzes, and can participate in Discussions. The Visitor-Auditor role is restricted to view-only access in other parts of the course. Please see below for a more detailed list of their access.

This role has access to:
-View most tools including Content and Quizzes (preview only)
-Participate in Discussions

This role cannot:
-Access the Grades or Classlist tools
-Take a quiz as participant

The Visitor-Auditor role only has access to course materials for the same time period a regular student would. There is no early/late access.

Participants who have been assigned the "Visitor-Auditor" role will appear in the Classlist tool under the "Other" tab.

For more information about adding a person to your D2L course with the Visitor-Auditor role, please use the following procedure:
