Using the Repository of Administrative Data and Reports (RADAR)

RADAR is the one-stop, central portal for exploring and locating UW-Madison’s administrative data and reports. This KB article explains how to get the most out of RADAR and its multiple methods for finding dashboards or reports.

Search for a Specific Dashboard or Report

If you know part or all of the name, enter it in the Search box toward the top of the page. The Search box searches the names and descriptions of the available reports and returns relevant results and will filter as you type.

Browse Dashboards or Reports

To browse the selection of dashboards or reports available, use any of the filters described below. Click the Clear All button on the right to reset all your filters.

Type

To narrow the dashboards and reports listed to a specific type of dashboard or report, use the Type filter to view certain data products. You can click the entry again to unselect the filter. Most Tableau dashboards and visualizations are labeled as an Interactive Data Visualization.

Data Domain

To narrow the dashboards and reports listed to a specific Data Domain, select an option from the Data Domain drop-down. Each dashboard or report can belong to one or more Data Domains. Data Domains are approved by the Data Governance Council and are subject to change.

Access Restrictions

Some dashboards and reports are available to anyone, including members of the public. Others require authentication due to security, legal, or privacy concerns. A dashboard or report requiring authentication are denoted by the lock symbol next to its name. Some dashboards or reports are further limited to specific access groups according to the Institutional Data Policy. Other dashboards and reports are available only to a specific audience specified by the owner of the dashboard or report.

The process for gaining access varies according to the Access Restriction placed on each dashboard or report. Descriptions are listed below along with information on and how to gain access to each Access Restriction.

Access Restriction Description How to Gain Access
Publicly Available Anyone can view the dashboard or report. N/A. No restrictions are placed on the dashboard or report.
All Employees UW-Madison employees must use their NetID to access the dashboard or report. N/A. User must be a UW-Madison employee.
Specific Audience A specific list of users is given access by the owner of the dashboard or report. Select the Request Access link on the right side of the page to send an email to the report owner.
Data Access Groups (e.g. Student Data - Restricted, Employee Data - Internal) UW-Madison employees are assigned to this group based on an approval process. See Request Access for more details. Select the Request Access link on the right side of the page to fill out a Request Access Form.
