KB User's Guide - Documents Tab - Embedding a Video link into your KB document

This document will show you how to add a video link to your KB document.

The easiest way to connect users to an online video via the web is to simply create a link using this syntax while editing your KB document in the HTML Editor.

<a href="videofile.mov">Name of Video Link in your KB Doc</a>

The HTML <a> href attribute specifies the link's destination. More specifically, it indicates KB group number 41, the image folder number of 8530, the name of the image file and finally the image tag name.

 /images/group41/8530/gif-animals-goat.gif

The syntax appearing in the HTML editor of this document looks like this:

<a href="/images/group41/8530/animals-goat.gif">Goats</a>

This is what the video link will look like on your KB document.

Goats: GIF File

This also works on an *.ogv video link.

Toys: OGV File

On most user's systems this will open the video in the appropriate video viewing application. In some cases it will merely download the video file to their system.

In most cases, however, you will want to present your video within the context of your KB document. In that case you will need to take into account two factors:

  • in which browser is the user accessing your site?
  • in which format is your video?
The document below should guide you. After reviewing it, if you are not finding what you need, please contact us at kb-team@lists.wisc.edu and we will problem solve through your needs and requirements.
