Learn@UW - Problems Playing Videos Referenced by Quicklinks when Using Internet Explorer

When using Internet Explorer to view a document in any tool except Content, if it contains a Quicklink to a video file of type .mov or .avi specified to be opened in a NEW window, the video may not play when you click on the link.

Possible symptoms include the video not loading or the display of a blank white page or 'garbage' characters.

The problem does NOT occur if you are using another supported browser, the .mov or .avi file is specified to open in the SAME window, or you are viewing Content topics.

This is a known issue.

If you want the videos to be viewable using Internet Explorer, do either of the following:

  • Specify that .mov or .avi files are to open in the SAME window.
  • Use Embedded objects instead of Quicklinks.
