Health Sciences and Minimal Risk IRBs, IRB News/Volume 10, Number 9, December 2018

Upcoming Holiday Hours

The HS IRBs Office will be closed the following days over the winter holidays:

Upcoming IRB Meeting Date Gaps

Due to how the December and January holidays are falling on the calendar, both the MR and HS IRBs will have some gaps in their meeting schedules. The last IRB meetings for 2018 will be the week of December 17th, with the first IRB meetings in 2019 happening the week of January 7th. As always, study teams are encouraged to let IRB staff know of any approval deadlines they may have.

Revised Guidance on Pregnancy Status and Children

The HS IRBs Office has recently updated guidance on the ethical, regulatory, and state law issues related to pregnancy in research subjects who are children. The purpose of the edits were to update the guidance to reflect current practice, as well as clarify the specific considerations for disclosing pregnancy status results to children, their parents/legal guardians, and law enforcement or child protective services in cases of suspected abuse. For questions about the guidance, please contact asktheirb@medicine.wisc.edu.

Reminder: Changes to NetID and Training Requirements for External Personnel

As announced this fall, the IRBs no longer require external personnel to obtain netIDs and to be listed be listed on the study team member pages of the IRB application. This change was made to reduce administrative burden on researchers and IRB staff alike. A few reminders and resources regarding this change:

If you have questions about when external personnel may need a netID or how to list them in the IRB application, please contact the Reliance Team (irbreliance@wisc.edu).
