WiscWeb - WordPress UW Theme - Google Analytics Not Tracking Stats for Protected Site or Pages

This document focuses on the issue of protected sites and pages not showing data in Google Analytics.

Issue

Users of protected intranet sites will not show data in Google Analytics. Also, pages that are locked down to a Manifest Group or to all NetIDs will not show results in the pulled dataset. The reason for this is that Google's bot will not have access to crawl your site content if it is password protected.

Resolution

This is a known issue and no simple workaround is currently available. There may be options to customize your site to include code that will allow Google bots to bypass the permissions. This would be a fee-based customization and might not be possible depending on your site setup. If you'd like to explore this option, please send an email to WiscWeb Support at cms-support@doit.wisc.edu. Include your site name in this email.
