An individualized elective course designed for students with or without physical or functional disabilities. Strives to provide programs to increase the student's overall level of physical activity, to explore various exercises promoting fitness and to introduce lifetime leisure activities applicable to the individual student's needs. Registration restrictions follow normal university guidelines. Classes offered each semester, with 2 required classes per week at specific locations in the SERF. Also a summer session available for new clients.
The Adapted Fitness and Personal Training classes offered through the Physical Education Activity Program serves a very diverse student population. The classes are designed to accommodate students with permanent as well as temporary disabilities. Classes are also designed to accommodate students who are interested in personal training and those who are concerned with stress management, weight management and those individuals who might feel they need more individualized attention in getting started with learning about and establishing a healthier lifestyle.
Volunteers are essential to the Adapted Fitness and Personal Training classes. Those who are looking to fulfill service learning requirements, graduate school and employment experience are encouraged to volunteer. Students interested in physical and occupational therapy programs or rehabilitative or special education programs often find this experience is invaluable for describing in applications for graduate studies.
