WiscVPN - Installing and Connecting the GlobalProtect Client (Windows)

This document describes how to download, install, and connect the WiscVPN PaloAlto GlobalProtect VPN client onto a Windows computer. Global Protect is available on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows.

Note: This client is compatible only with Windows 7 and later.

Note: If you are having trouble installing WiscVPN, try disabling Symantec Endpoint Protection on your machine. When you are done with the installation, re-enable Symantec. Reboot your computer before trying to connect to WiscVPN.

Note: It is a common mistake to download the app version from the Windows store, which is not part of the standard installation process. Please make sure to download the client below.

Download the Client

Instructions for Installing and Connecting the GlobalProtect VPN Client

  1. After downloading the file, navigate to your Downloads folder and locate the .msi file. Double-click it to begin the installation.

    Locate the downloaded file in the downloads folder.

  2. Follow the prompts given to you by the setup wizard.

    Click Next. Click Next. Click Next. Click Close.

    Note: After clicking "Next" on the third screen above, there will be a windows security prompt. Make sure to click "Allow" on this window.

  3. Type in the portal address: uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu

    Type in the portal address: uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu

  4. Sign in using your UW Madison NetID and NetID password.

  5. If all the previous steps are completed correctly, the VPN should be connected.

    If prior steps were completed correctly, the vpn should be connected.

Note: If the Global Protect window disappears any point and clicking the icon in the tray at the bottom of the screen doesn't work, you can re-open it by using the search bar on the bottom left.

If the window disappears, use the cortana search to open it again.
