Creating Team Channels

Within Microsoft Teams, users are able to create channels within Teams, which are basically smaller conversations with a distinct focus. Any created channels will allow anyone from that specific Team to participate in the channel, meaning channels are more defined sub-chats that everyone from that team should be able to participate in, if they need to.

Creating a channel
  • Every team has an automatically generated channel called “General”. This channel is not able to be deleted.
  • In order to add a new channel to a specific team, navigate to the teams tab.
  • Click on the three dots next to the team name you want to add a channel to, and click the “Add channel option”.
  • Type a name for the new channel and click the “Add” button.
  • While still in the teams tab, you should now see a new tab under the team name. This is the newly created channel.
