Learn@UW - Problems Editing Properties of Plain Text Locker Files
If you want to change the properties of a plain text (.txt) file in your locker to make the file Public or Private or change the description, do not select Edit from the drop-down by the file's name. If you do, any blank lines in the text file and possibly line breaks are removed when you press Save. Leading blank characters in each line are also removed.
To change the properties of a plain text (.txt) file in your locker, select the file from the list of files in your locker and then select the 'Edit Selected Files' icon near the upper or lower left corner of the list. You will then be able to change the properties while leaving the file intact.
If you select Edit from the drop-down by the file's name, the HTML editor opens. This will cause the content of the file to change when you press Save, even if you have not explicitly changed the file's contents.
The HTML editor should not open when editing plain text files.
This is a known issue.
