The mission of the Institute on Aging of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is to promote, through excellence in multidisciplinary research, education, service and practice, the health and well- being of the rapidly expanding aging population in our local community, state, and society at large. The institute of aging also allows for a Ph.D and a certificate program.

The institute, which consists of 75 scientists, educators and practitioners from 30 departments at UW-Madison, is recognized as a major biomedical and psychosocial research center. Research studies cover a wide array of topics, including Alzheimer's Disease, bone health, caloric restriction, caregiving, falls, mind-body interactions, preventive medicine, swallowing, work and family life transitions and resilience in later life. The Institute's educational activities include two certificate programs, an NIH training grant in the Biology of Aging and Age-Related Diseases, and many community outreach programs.
