DARS/Faculty&Staff - Use DARSX for requesting and approving exceptions
Overview
Below are the steps for using DARSX and related FAQ's.
Access DARSX
For staff (faculty, deans, and advisors) who have already obtained authorization & permissions to use DARSX, you may access DARSX here: dars.services.wisc.edu/darsx.
Step 1: Acquire DARSX access
For L&S staff looking to gain DARSX access, visit the L&S KB for DARSX and follow the instructions.
For all other schools looking to gain access to DARSX, email your request to dars@em.wisc.edu.
***School of Engineering and School of Education do not use DARSX for DARS exceptions.
Step 2: Go to DARSX and authenticate with NetID
Navigate to dars.services.wisc.edu/darsx.
Log in with your NetID and password.
Request an exception
For staff (faculty, deans, and advisors) who have already logged into DARSX, authorized users may request an exception for a student by following these steps:
Step 1: Click on request exception
Highlight the "Requestor" tab and click "Request Exception."
Step 2: Search for student
You can enter a Campus ID or search by name.
Step 3: Select the major or certificate for which you wish to request an exception
All of a student's majors and certificates will be shown. Select the one you wish to request an exception for by clicking on it.
Step 4 : Select the requirement for which you wish to create a DARS exception
The requirements in DARSX should mirror the order in which they appear on a DARS report.
Scroll down to the requirement where you wish to make an exception
In most cases, you will be able to choose a course to add to a requirement. Select the drop-down and choose the course you wish to use in the exception. In other cases, you may be able to specify a different number of credits to satisfy a requirement as well. To do so, type the number of credits into the "Satisfied with credits" box.
FAQs
Why can't I see all of the requirements on a DARS audit when requesting a DARS exception in DARSX?
There are several roles in the DARSX system. Academic advisors are usually assigned a role that only allows them to view major/certificate requirements. Deans will usually be able to see School/College requirements as well as General Education requirements.
