L&S Recommended Summer Sessions for Course Scheduling

This document provides guidance regarding sessions for summer course scheduling in the College of Letters & Science. This was last updated August 5th, 2024 — summer session dates for 2025 will be updated here in late August.

Important information for Summer 2025

Special permission is required from L&S Teaching & Learning Administration to offer an undergraduate course in a session that ends after 8/11/2024 (to be updated for 2025 in late August).

Summer Course Scheduling

Summer Term 2025 undergraduate courses should be scheduled for sessions entirely within the ranges 5/19/2025 and 8/10/2025.

Below is the list of recommended sessions; the actual dates for Summer 2025 will be updated in late August:

Recommended Sessions
# of Weeks Code Start End
4-week ZDD 5/20/24 6/16/24
4-week DDD 6/17/24 7/14/24
4-week HDD 7/15/24 8/11/24
6-week ZFF 5/20/24 6/30/24
6-week FFF 7/1/24 8/11/24
8-week DHH 6/17/24 8/11/24
  • Choosing other terms may be problematic for students, and thus discourage enrollment.
  • Do not use early sessions (with session code beginning 'Y') or late sessions (sessions ending later than the general 8-week 'DHH' session). These sessions fall outside of the Summer Term calendar and impact student grading and end-of-term actions (e.g., drops, academic standing). Some of these sessions overlap with spring/fall faculty contract dates, and will create HR/payroll issues for instructors and Teaching Assistants.
