The Kohl Center is the home of UW men's and women's basketball and men's hockey teams, and includes the offices of their coaching staff and Kohl Center administrative staff. The Kohl Center also hosts concerts and family shows, WIAA state high school championships, Big Ten and NCAA events, UW Band Concerts, UW and area high school commencements, banquets, speeches, University Convocations and other special events (including December commencement each year, as well as MFA, doctoral and professional degree commencement each May). The Badger Store, which sells authentic UW merchandise, is located at the Kohl Center's Gate B entrance.
The Kohl Center seats 17,230 for men's basketball, which includes courtside seating, and 17,142 for women's basketball. These figures includes approximately 7,500 seats in the lower seating bowl and 4,500 in each of the two balconies. The unique design of the Kohl Center (with two overhanging balconies) guarantees that all fans will be close to the playing floor with excellent site lines. The facility seats 15,237 for hockey, and between 15,000 and 17,000 for concerts.NOTE: Beginning January 1, 2016 both the Kohl Center and Camp Randall will begin charging for their tours. Walk in tours, which are 15-20 minutes, for groups up to 10 people, are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning at Noon. Visitors must register at the Gate B Welcome Desk. Escorts are required at all times to view the bowl area and the Chihuly glass sculpture. Public Tours are not available during the following situations:
- On concert days or when other special / miscellaneous events are scheduled
- During afternoon hours when UW Athletic competitions are scheduled
- When the facility is closed to the general public for any reason
Groups may make a reservation for a free Kohl Center tour Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m., two weeks in advance of the tour date. Each group should have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 75 participants. Tours last approximately 45 minutes. Tours view the seating bowl, the Chihuly glass sculpture, one of the suites, the basketball and hockey coaches offices, and the Nicholas-Johnson Pavilion. Vehicle parking (including buses) is not available at the Kohl Center or Camp Randall unless advance arrangements are made with the tour scheduler.
