The Alliance for Animals and the Environment is a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rights and environment organization whose fundamental belief is that all animals, human and non human, should not be treated as the property of another. The Alliance was created to promote ethical, compassionate treatment of all animals and the planet we share.
On June 27, 1983, the newly organized Alliance for Animals (AFA) filed paperwork to become the first animal rights organization in Wisconsin. Heading the organization were founders Sue Anderson and Pam Johnson (pictured with Alex Pacheco, co-founder of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Sue and Pam set a goal to bring the suffering of animals into the public eye.
In 2013, the Alliance for Animals, driven by the overwhelming evidence linking animal agriculture to environmental devastation, changed its name to the Alliance for Animals and the Environment.
Active in Madison and now Milwaukee, the Alliance hosts regular groups (anti-vivisection in Madison and ethical living in Milwaukee), as well as events, letter-writing campaigns, public outreach, and other actions.
