WiscVPN - Static IP Troubleshooting

This document details troubleshooting steps for users experiencing issues logging in with or accessing certain materials that require a specific IP range obtained using the Static WiscVPN service.

Static VPN Troubleshooting

  • Users MUST use the Palo Alto GlobalProtect client when using the static WiscVPN service - users will be returned a dynamic IP address if using a different client, which will prohibit access to some IP range gated services.
  • Users should log in to the static VPN service with the username format USERNAME_1 where "USERNAME" is usually the user's NetID. To confirm a user's username, they should contact the IT department responsible for assigning static IPs for the service they are attempting to access
  • If a user attempts to access the Static IP service while another device is already using the service via the user's account, the client will return a dynamic IP address. Users who work from multiple devices should always ensure they manually disconnect from the VPN client when finished using the static IP service to ensure they will receive a static IP when next attempting to connect.
