Sys Admins - How to Reset a User's Password

This document covers the Help Desk procedure for resetting a user's PDS Online password.

Note for Help Desk agents: It is not necessary to verify any specific data before resetting a password, however, try to have the customer confirm their User ID and/or Workplace County/Tribe listed for their account. If either entry does not match what they tell you, you need only confirm that it was previously accurate (i.e. you are viewing the correct user's account). Let them know they should eventually update this information on the Qualtrics form and proceed with resetting their password. New passwords can only be given out over the phone and should not be sent electronically.

  1. Log in to PDS Online.

  2. From the PDS Online home page, navigate to Admin > Users.

  3. From here, you can search for a user by last name, first name, user name, email, address, and/or manager. Once you find the user, you have many options. There is an option to reset the password from the dropdown to the right of the name, but we won't do that yet. First, click the user's name to open the user record.

  5. Scroll down to see the email field. If there's a value in this field, and the user confirms that this is their current email address, simply hit the back button on your browser. If there is not a value in this field or if it is an outdated value, select "Edit Record" in the upper right corner, ask the user what their current email address is, and enter that value into the Email Address field. Select "Save" in the upper right corner.

  7. You should have been taken back to the screen with the user's name. Now, click the arrow under the Options column and select the Change Password option.

  9. A popup will give you two options. Be sure to select the option where you send the user an email. Click OK. An email will be sent to the user with their username and a link to reset the password. When they click the link, they will be asked to choose a new password.
