We are a PGY-2 ACPE accredited program offering one position for the 2025 Match cycle.

The primary focus of the residency is to become a successful clinical specialty care pharmacist capable of leading and managing specialty pharmacy services within a health care system.

Why UW?

This program will develop experts in the business, operational, and clinical components of health system specialty pharmacies. Residents completing this program will have the knowledge and resources to oversee and lead all aspects of a health system specialty pharmacy, including complex disease state management, business strategies, specialty pharmacy marketplace analyses, pharmacy operations, and budgeting/finance. Additionally, as a specialty pharmacy that is triple accredited, the resident will be required to understand and oversee compliance with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards.

What makes UW Health’s Specialty Pharmacy Residency Program unique?
This is a highly specialized residency program focused on the development of specialty pharmacy practice and patient care. We provide future leaders the opportunities to explore different aspects of specialty pharmacy including operations, patient management, informatics support, 340b/fiscal responsibility, and the maintenance of specialty accreditations.

Stipend/Benefits
$54,700; 144 hours of paid time off, inclusive of vacation, holidays, and sick time. As employees of UW Health, residents receive full health insurance benefits and full access to the University of Wisconsin’s recreational, educational, and cultural facilities.

Pharmacy Practice Model and Staffing

The department is a leader in the areas of technology assessment, automation, information technology, regulatory compliance, and business development. A hybrid drug distribution model is used on the inpatient side. The pharmacy department also manages 14 community pharmacies, a long-term care consulting service, a rural hospital pharmacy management business, full PBM managed care services, a hospice pharmacy program, and a medication therapy management mail order program. The resident will staff as a pharmacist over the course of the residency year. On average, the resident will staff 24 hours every two weeks.
