Informatics PGY-2 Residency
We are a PGY-2 ACPE accredited program offering one position for the 2025 Match cycle.
This program is uniquely positioned to prepare residents for making significant contributions in the health informatics field. The resident trains with the support of UW Health’s dedicated informatics pharmacy department team and will help maximize the departments state and national contribution in informatics to improve patient care. With our proximity to a major EHR vendor there are also unique opportunities for the resident to gain industry experience through certification and on-site rotations.

What makes UW Health’s Informatics Residency Program unique?
Residents are exposed to all aspect of medication use across the enterprise with opportunities to tailor rotations around their interests. The pharmacy informatics team including residents work closely with clinical, operational and informatics experts including pharmacists, physician and nursing informaticists and informatics and technology analysts. The resident has the opportunity to obtain Epic EHR certification and take an elective industry rotation. Residents in the program are integrated in learner education co-precepting students and other residents and providing lectures at the UW-Madison School of Pharmacy and serving as a TA in one of the classes.
What goals do you have for residents who complete your residency program?
Develop informatics skills, project management and problem solving abilities to allow residents to serve as an informatics pharmacist and leader in an area that they are passionate about.
What is your best advice for prospective residency candidates?
Choose an area that you are passionate about. Remember that setbacks and challenges are part of a lifelong growth and learning process, use these to your advantage. Always maintain a positive attitude.

Pharmacy Practice Model and Staffing
Pharmacy services are provided by teams of pharmacists, technicians, and analysts within an integrated practice model. The pharmacy informatics team is part of the pharmacy department and includes both clinical informatics pharmacists and analysts who work closely with the informatics department, medical informaticist physicians, nursing informatics and other disciplines to lead and support the use of pharmacy informatics to improve patient care an enterprise operations. The resident will staff as both a central and decentral pharmacist over the course of the residency year. On average, the resident will staff 24 hours every two weeks, including every other weekend.
